HONG KONG - With the United States moving to change its relationship with Hong Kong by ending the city's preferential treatment over mainland China, Hong Kong government officials have slammed the move while some observers say it is too early to tell the degree of damage to the territory.

In a statement issued on Saturday night (May 30), the Hong Kong government blasted the Trump administration for smearing and demonising "the legitimate rights and duty of our sovereign to safeguard national security.
