Balancing the Budget: Revenue & expenditure

Singapore is required under the Constitution to keep to a balanced Budget over each term of Government. For FY 2016, the overall Budget balance is projected to be a surplus of $3.45 billion. Social development spending made up almost half of the Government's expenditure for 2016, while a large portion of the operating revenue came from corporate income tax, personal income tax and goods and services tax.

Revenue
A large portion of the Government's operating revenue comes from corporate income tax. The Government announced in 2015 that it will include Temasek Holdings as a contributor to its Net Investment Returns (NIR).
