The latest report on key household income trends released last Thursday has some telling statistics on the plight of Singapore's aged population.
The proportion of households comprising solely non-working people in the age group 65 or older has almost doubled from 4 per cent in 2009 to 7.9 per cent last year, while the number of such households has more than doubled in absolute terms, from 45,300 to 108,000 over the same period.
