SINGAPORE - In response to overwhelming interest, the Singapore Mint has announced a second issuing of medallions commemorating the establishment of new relations between the United States and North Korea at the historic Trump-Kim summit held in Singapore on June 12.

They will be minted in 1/2 ounce 999.9 fine gold and 1 ounce 999 fine silver. Like the first issue, the gold version will be priced at $1,380 and the silver version at $118. The new design features the flags of the US and North Korea in colour application on the obverse for both the gold and silver medallions.

The handshake between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as well as the joint statement signed by the two leaders will feature on the reverse. The date of the summit and the words "Singapore Summit" will also be carried on the reverse.

Singapore Mint had previously issued three commemorative medallions in gold, silver and nickel-plated zinc base-metal. The quantities of the gold and silver versions were increased from 1,000 pieces to 3,000 pieces and 10,000 pieces to 15,000 pieces respectively due to overwhelming response.

Customers who have ordered the first-issue medallions will enjoy an exclusive invitation to place a priority pre-order. Those who have been directly invited by Singapore Mint to place a pre-order will be guaranteed one gold and one silver medallion each. Quantities above that may be subject to balloting in the event of excessive demand.

The invite-only pre-order period is open from now until July 8 at 11.59pm. However, customers who did not order the first issue may indicate their interest in purchasing the new medallions by calling or visiting any Singapore Mint outlet.

The indicative mintage, which may be adjusted according to demand, is set for 5,000 pieces for the gold medallion and 15,000 pieces for the silver medallion. Orders placed by July 8 will be fulfilled progressively from October onwards.

A spokesman for Singapore Mint said that it would monitor the demand and decide on whether or not to open up orders to new customers after July 8.
