As a child growing up in the 1980s, I did the same thing every year on Aug 9 – sitting in front of a clunky television set watching the National Day Parade, and eating dinner delivered from Pizza Hut.
My family didn’t have a habit of hanging the national flag outside our home. Instead, the adults bought us children toy flags from the mamak shop downstairs.
