SINGAPORE - As darkness crept over the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve one September evening, a group of people awaiting nightfall sprang into action.

Hoisting giant mist nets that spanned about 5m in height, 15 people went off the boardwalk and trudged into the mud, wearing headlamps to light their way against the resident crocodiles lurking in the dark.
