SINGAPORE - The national shooters did not exactly fire blanks at the recent SEA Games, but their haul of one silver and four bronze medals was their worst showing since the 1991 edition in Manila where they returned with three silvers and six bronzes but no gold.
There were mitigating factors though. There were only seven Olympic events this time - which is where the Singapore Shooting Association (SSA) tends to focus its efforts in - compared to 13 at the 2017 Games and the Republic also sent a relatively inexperienced squad. Four of the nine-member team were debutants, yet three of the rookies achieved podium finishes.
